Breaking News from Karen Chance

I am amazed that this needed to be said, but as Karen said apparently it was necessary!  Public Service Announcement Published August 5, 2017 | By admin In the past few days, I have received repeated emails from people unhappy about Ride the Storm supposedly being the last book in the Cassandra Palmer series. They were angry that I hadn’t tied up every single strand and given them a proper send off. They were distressed because someone, somewhere, had told them that this was the last book and they believed it. It occurred to me that, if I was getting repeated emails, there might be more people out there who believed the same thing, but who hadn’t dropped me a line. So here, for the record, is my official take on this: this is not the last book. Originally, there were supposed to be nine books in the series, three interwoven trilogies, each dealing with a different challenge for Cassie to face. A sort of “Big Bad” around which her other adventures were framed. This book completes the second of these “trilogies” (the quotation marks are because they each took four books to complete, not three as originally intended.) So we have a ways still to go. I am not saying, btw, that there are exactly four books left; I am saying that it will take at least that many to complete the original design....

Laurell K Hamilton Blog Post Repost and a Few Thoughts of my Own

My husband’s family is an armed forces family.  His father was a marine and his mother in the army.  They met in the Armed Services band and as the lore goes, that was that. My husband was in Air Force ROTC and got a scholarship to college and wanted to be a pilot.  He got derailed by Calculus Four, but that is another story entirely… His little brother and sister were also in ROTC in high school, but chose different paths for their lives. The first time I ever traveled with my children through an airport, I taught them that the men and women in armed services uniforms were special and that they fought for our country and deserved our gratitude–then I cringed as my two year old ran up to the marine, pulled on his dress uniform with sticky hands and then said “Thank You for saving my mommy”  to say he was surprised was an understatement.  After many apologies and smiles, we parted ways and I taught both my daughters that the correct phrase was “thank you for your service.”  And to this day I feel a sense of pride each time they politely thank the men and women in the armed services. ( and now cringe as they are pretty close in age to the youngest recruits at 14 and 15, and they get a little more...

Looking on the Bright Side

Today my husband would have been 39.  I miss him every day.  And despite what people say time doesn’t heal all wounds.  There is no set way to grieve,  no timetable that everyone can consult.  I am lucky–all I have to do is look at my daughters and I Can see him.  It’s in an expression and their enormous generosity of spirit… And in the way they care for all those around them.  I am a lucky woman.  I had a relationship with him that made me better than I was.  And together we were more than the sum of our parts… But the problem with that is that now that I am alone I am less than  I was before we started… But for a time I touched happiness and if I hold on just a little bit longer perhaps my story will change…  You never know what waits just around the...

Something to make you think, just a little

“People aren’t so good at being good to one another. We try hard enough, but something essential was left out in the making of us, some hard little patch of stone in the fertile soil that’s supposed to be our hearts. We get hung up on the bad, and we focus on it until it grows, and the whole crop is lost.”   Seanan Mcguire Dusk or Dawn or Dawn or...

Death quote

The wind howls, the rain comes down in sheets, and Patty is still dead. The earth settles, the grave grows green with the first shoots of hungry scrub grass and dandelion root, and Patty is still dead. The funeral bells are silent, the last of the we’re-so-sorry cakes have been reduced to stale crumbs that attract marching regiments of ants, and Patty is still dead. Patty is going to be dead forever, because that’s what dead means : dead is the change you can’t take back, dead is the mistake that can’t be unmade. The rain batters the tin slope of the roof until the sound of it drowns out everything else in the world—everything except for the simple, inalienable fact that Patty is dead , Patty is gone , Patty is never coming home . Seanan Mcguire Dusk or Dawn or Dawn or...
