So, I have a few revelations to share…

1) What I am reading greatly affects my overall mood, mental health, and physical health.  I was reading a book I didn’t care very much for, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Deadmen Walking.  I expected to love it, but it just wasn’t doing it for me.  I was angry and irritable and it was taking me forever to get through the book.  That led me to watching hours of bad crime television on YouTube.

2) Something big and bad is happening in the publishing industry-especially for paranormal authors.  I’ve been shocked by the news that Laurell K Hamilton won’t be releasing a book this year.  While I fully support her decision to take time to recharge and get to know her new editor, I’m hearing a lot of rumblings.  A lot of readers expressed unhappiness with Crimson Death, the last Anita Blake book by Laurell K. Hamilton and I am putting that onus on the publishers and the editor they assigned to her.  I am hoping that their relationship will improve or that someone will add in anther person in the process who knows Laurell K. Hamilton’s books backward, forward and upside down (other then her significant others) and can discuss whatever Laurell K. Hamilton needs or somehow help the editor get their Laurell K. Hamilton knowledge up to snuff.

3) We have to support our authors.  If authors as important and big time as Laurell K. Hamilton are having trouble what about all our other authors.  I need my books.  They are my coping mechanism and they keep me away from my head exploding from our daily world news.

Book Review of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Deadmen Walking

Book Review of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Deadmen Walking

I’m usually a big Kenyon fan.  I looked forward to this release because it promised more information about the Hellchasers and Thorn.  We’ve seen glimpses of them in other books, but this was supposed to explain things a little more clearly.  It really didn’t.  We had a lot of new character introduced who were given a second chance after being damned and some new species to learn about.

These creatures fight the worst of the worst out of the sight of humans.  But, the romance between the two main characters fell flat and there just wasn’t enough to keep interest in the story.  It was complicated by an ex wife who was the sister of the main heroine, who is also the ship.  It was an ok read.  I give it 3 out of 5 stars since it really disappointed.

Sherrilyn Kenyon Quote

“evil didn’t pick and choose who to corrupt. It took root like an insidious weed that sought to destroy whatever garden it could find succor in, no matter who, what, or where that garden originated from. Evil was never picky about its host. That was why it was so important to rip it out and toss it off before it could spread and rot the garden from the inside out. Take over and destroy the beauty that made the garden whole and healthy.” Deadmen Walking, Sherrilyn Kenyon

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon debuts a sweeping new epic saga sure to appeal to her millions of fans! Deadmen tell their tales . . . To catch evil, it takes evil. Enter Devyl Bane—an ancient dark warlord returned to the human realm as one of the most notorious pirates in the New World. A man of many secrets, Bane makes a pact with Thorn—an immortal charged with securing the worst creations the ancient gods ever released into our world. Those powers have been imprisoned for eons behind enchanted gates . . . gates that are beginning to buckle. At Thorn’s behest, Bane takes command of a crew of Deadmen and, together, they are humanity’s last hope to restore the gates and return the damned to their hell realms. But things are never so simple. And one of Bane’s biggest problems is the ship they sail upon. For the Sea Witch isn’t just a vessel, she’s also a woman born of an ancient people he wronged and who in turn wronged him during a centuries long war between their two races—a woman who is also sister to their primary target. Now Marcelina, the Sea Witch, must choose. Either she remains loyal to her evil sister and almost extinct race against Bane and his cause, and watches humanity fall, or she puts faith in an enemy who has already betrayed her. Her people over the totality of humanity—let’s hope Bane can sway her favor. Deadmen Walking is the first historical fantasy title in New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Deadman’s Cross series. It is a tale of passion and loss, emotions that wound and heal...and ultimate redemption

What’s the deal with Amy Lane?

As most of you know by now, I’m kind of a big fan of Amy Lane, in general, and as an author. I stumbled upon Vulnerable back when it was first published, and I have been watching, waiting and cheering each time a book came out and we got to join Cory on her journey through an alternate world where all the rules are good ones…

Why do all the BIG Books come out on the same day…

OK, So I finally pulled my head out of the Chanceverse and looked around only to realize a whole slew of Book Birthdays were yesterday (for those of us not gifted with huge netgalley accounts, grumble grumble)!  But now I have a problem-which do I read first?  So I thought I would lay out my deliberations here, and maybe give some suggestions in the process…

Book One is Wicked Abyss by Kresley Cole.  This is our yearly installment in the Immortals After Dark series.  We got a spin-off novel a little while ago with Shadow’s Seduction which was a long awaited book with two very familiar characters.  I am excited to see where we are going with Nix’s jump into the insanity pool (if you don’t read the series, this will make no sense at all) but I don’t know these characters yet.  Hopefully they will end up as lovable as Jo and Rune but I really don’t know if I am following where Nix’s train is heading…it seemed to jump the tracks a bit…

Book two is Snared by Jennifer Estep This is book 16 in the Elemental Assassin series and promises to be an interesting read.  Gin Blanco the assassin we all love so very much is trying to unravel the conspiracy that revolves around her Mother and the mysterious Circle.  Estep always delivers a great story and I never have to worry about where it’s going because we all know there will be heartbreak and our Assassin with a Heart will save the day or extract vengeance…

Book 3 is Blade Bound by Chloe Neill- This one promises to be a heartbreaker as it’s the last of the Chicagoland Vampires series…I can’t imagine how this series can end- I mean Ethan already died and came back to undeadness…And there’s all the subplots that just can’t be ending SOB SOB …

SO where do I go? Who do I start with?

Nora Roberts Quote

Broken hearts healed. Maybe the cracks were always there, like thin scars, but they healed. People lived and worked, laughed and ate, walked and talked with those cracks. For many, even the scars healed and they loved again.

World Book Day

So, I think that absolutely everyone knows I am a Karen Chance fan.  I am a reader, so for me finding a great series is like finding a lost present the day after your birthday. Some of the series are one off’s-I will read them once and they will forever live in my head and one day a friend will say something about a series in which Mab owns a circus and I’ll be able to pull the title out of nowhere.  Some, Like Karen Chance become a large part of my life as I try to drum up support for their releases.  Some I support on Patreon, because the thought of a world without the next Kit Colbana book makes me want to cry!

There are lots of authors I connect with as a reader and I ask questions of lots of them.  Some like Karen answer me themselves, others have Media Minions who answer for them.  I treasure each of these interactions and can live off the excitement for days.  But there are a few who become my friends.  There is no one I respect more than Amy Lane.  I have been a fan of her works for what feels like forever.  I love her Little Goddess Series which she self published.  I warn you there is explicit sex with multiple partners.  Amy also writes m/m romance novels and she shys away from nothing.  Her books are real and there is lots of emotional reality.  There are lots of situations that will break your heart.  The characters are easily related to.

Fat Is Not A Fairy Tale

fatsmartandpretty:

By: Jane Yolen

I am thinking of a fairy tale,
Cinder Elephant,
Sleeping Tubby,
Snow Weight,
where the princess is not
anorexic, wasp-waisted,
flinging herself down the stairs.

I am thinking of a fairy tale,
Hansel and Great,
Repoundsel,
Bounty and the Beast,
where the beauty
has a pillowed breast,
and fingers plump as sausage.

I am thinking of a fairy tale
that is not yet written,
for a teller not yet born,
for a listener not yet conceived,
for a world not yet won,
where everything round is good:
the sun, wheels, cookies, and the princess.
