Have a question from rereading Affliction…It makes reference to Micah’smom being mixed race, so what is Micah’s race? Here is the reference I am referring to “Micah’s mom was in the hallway being comforted by Gonzales. She was crying, and for a second I feared the worst. My stomach tightened with dread, but I squared my shoulders and kept walking forward; no retreat, no surrender.
Domino spoke low beside me. ‘Who is that?’
I answered, sort of under my breath, ‘Micah’s mom.’
‘Really?’ he said.
I glanced up at him but couldn’t read his expression with his eyes hidden behind sunglasses. He didn’t exactly look happy, though; I hadn’t thought about the whole mixed-race thing being an issue for anyone. If anyone was going to have an issue it would be the clan weretigers, but Domino with his own mixed heritage hadn’t been my pick for being bothered by it.” Affliction, Laurell K Hamilton

So, let’s talk about mythology

I can still remember the very first time I was exposed to the greek mythos.  I was 7 and a teacher mentioned Athena springing to life fully formed.  This was back in the days of actual encyclopedias in actual libraries.  I went and looked her up in the World Book Encyclopedia and I was hooked.  By the time I was 14, I bought the Big Book of Gods and Goddesses and learned all about all the different mythologies–Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic,Hindu,etc-there was not a minor god or goddess you could stump me with, and I had lots of people try!  So, I have been thrilled by the fact that paranormal romance has headed that way and that every author has their own mythos to learn and wow can they be complex!  I will say that the cainsville series by Kelley Armstrong has stretched my celtic knowledge a little bit.  But I just got sidetracked!  I wanted to talk a little bit about Karen Chance’s integration of both the Greek and Norse mythos into the Cassie Palmer series.  It’s an interesting proposition that the greek/Roman Gods were a race of fae that ruled the others.  Its also an interesting stretch to bring Artemis into conflict with Apollo and actually integrate Artemis into the line of Apollo seer’s.  Now the question I have, comes from a factoid that is just kind of put out there.  Apparently Artemis’ faithful companion and hunting dog is Rag.  When Cassie is learning about her father he is Roger Palmer, a Black Circle necromancer.  Then, we learn that he was Ragnar Palmer and that was just an alias…So here is my question is Cassie Palmer the daughter of Artemis and her loyal companion Rag?  If so does that make her a demigod, a shapeshifter or a god in her own right?

Don’t be stupid Read the freebies!

Just an FYI–Karen Chance does things a little differently.  She writes awesome books for her publisher and she also writes free stories that bridge the gap between novels.  Karen Chance actually writes these novellas and works just as hard on them as the novels.  While some authors might have a deleted scene or two, Karen has scenes from different POV’s and the free stories are important!  She writes them as a thank you to her loyal fans and it makes her a spectacular author to interact with

Spending time with Cassie

It’s been a while since I entered the Chanceverse and spent time with Cassie Palmer.  I hadn’t realized how much I missed her, until I saw a conversation between two fans and I couldn’t remember the details they were discussing.  The Cassandra Palmer world is so complex because as Pythia she keeps going back in time and that makes things complicated.  And there are so many twists as we go along.  I could write a dissertation on how Pritkin goes from a one dimensional crazypants mage to the infamous Merlin and half incubus on a starvation diet and then Cassie’s staunchest supporter.  And how about Cassie’s dad being the loyal hound who is always with Artemis, Rag.  And then her mom being Artemis who throws down the gauntlet to the Demons via long distance generational call.  Say what?!?  I’m going to go back and reread again because each time I read it my perspective changes

Reread Nirvana

So, I’ve decided to like what I like.  Rather than looking for new Authors and series, I’m going back to my old favorites and boy am I loving it!  I have done 2 Anita Blake rereads and have a totally different take on the series since there is no pressure to find out what happens.  I flew through Merry Gentry in 3 days.  And I found myself revisiting Lauren Dane’s Goddess with a Blade series.  Then I read the new paranormal series from Lauren Dane-Diablo Lake.  And now I just reread Karen Chance’s Cassandra Palmer and Dorina Basarab series.  WOW, I loved spending time with Cassie and Dory.  It’s amazing that all these authors have created complex worlds for us to explore and there are so many similarities but each series has a totally different take.

Karen Chance needs our Vocal Support!!!

I am very excited that the last Cassandra Palmer book is coming out in August!  It has been a long wait for Ride the Storm and I cannot wait to see the end of the current story arc.  But I am not ready to say goodbye to Cassie, Mircea, Pritkin and the gang!  I reached out to Ms Chance and she told me it depends on the publisher.  So let’s get vocal- let berkely know we want more!
